PRESS RELEASE

On Incident in Moscow with Ambassador of the Republic of Ghana

2298-09-11-2002

On November 7, in the Poklonnaya Gora area in Moscow, a group of young people made a hooligan attack on Ambassador of the Republic of Ghana Francis Yahaya Mahamma.

The prosecutor's office of Moscow's Western Administrative District has opened a criminal case under Article 213 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. An investigation is under way. Russian competent authorities are making energetic efforts to detain the participants of the attack on the Ambassador of Ghana.

We resolutely condemn such attacks by youth thugs. They inflict harm upon the authority of Russia as a country of traditional hospitality and respectful attitude to the representatives of foreign states.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia expresses the hope that this incident will not reflect on relations between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Ghana, which bear a long-standing friendly character.
