NO RUSSIAN CITIZENS IN GUINEA-BISAU WERE HURT

MOSCOW, October 8 (RIA Novosti) - None of the Russian citizens was hurt during the aggravation of the armed conflict in the Republic of Guinea-Bisau, says the information and press department of Russia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs .

On Wednesday, October 6, the situation in the republic's capital, Bisau city, became dramatically aggravated. This was caused by the fact that the servicemen of the peace-keeping battalion which had returned from Liberia went out of subordination. The former peace-keepers are displeased with the delay of the payment of their finance allowance.

The authorities of Guinea-Bisau took measures to normalize the situation. A commission for settling the conflict was set up and is already in talks with the representatives of the rebels.

The Russian Foreign Ministry's officials said that "currently the situation in the capital has practically come to normal."

"In Moscow they are keenly following the development of the situation in the Republic of Guinea-Bisau and express hope that the country's leadership will manage to find within the shortest time ways to resolve the crisis by political means," the Foreign Ministry's information and press department stresses.
