PRESS RELEASE
Concerning the Signing in Naivasha, Kenya, of Protocols on South Sudanese Settlement

Moscow welcomes the recent signing in Naivasha, Kenya, between the Government of the Republic of the Sudan and the Sudan People's Liberation Movement/Army (SPLM/A) of three protocols on political and power sharing issues, on the fate of three areas (Abyei, the Upper Blue Nile and the Nuba Mountains) and on the status of Khartoum.

We regard these documents as an important step forward in achieving a final settlement in Southern Sudan, an essential precondition of which is the preservation of the unity and territorial integrity of the country. We note the important positive role which the Forum of Partners of the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) in the person of its special representative for the Sudan Lazarus K. Sumbeiywo played in the process of reaching these agreements.
