Russian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Yuri Fedotov Holds Consultations in Lesotho
On March 4 the first bilateral political consultations in the history of Russian-Lesotho relations were held in Maseru. On the Russian side, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Yuri Fedotov took part in the talks, and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohlabi Tsekoa on the Lesotho side.
Fedotov was received by the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Lesotho, Pakalitha Mosisili.
A thorough exchange of views on key international problems took place, inter alia questions relating to the major trends in the world as globalization proceeds, the strengthening of the central role of the UN and counteraction against global threats and challenges.
The Lesotho side highly assessed the practical activity of Russia in the economic and social bodies of the UN with a view to creating favorable conditions for the sustainable economic development of African countries.
Much attention was devoted to regional problems, including the settlement and prevention of crisis situations in Africa, and to questions of fostering more effective cooperation by Russia in this sector with the African Union and sub-regional organizations, in particular the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
The state of, and prospects for bilateral relations were discussed.
