Exchange of Congratulatory Telegrams Between Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov and Abdel Shalkam, the Libyan Secretary of the General People's Committee for External Relations and International Cooperation

Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov and Abdel Shalkam, the Secretary of the General People's Committee for External Relations and International Cooperation of the Socialist People's Libyan Arab Jamahiriya, have exchanged congratulatory telegrams on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Russian-Libyan diplomatic relations, which is being marked on September 4, 2005.

The sides highly evaluated the level of, and prospects for bilateral cooperation in various fields, and emphasized the identity or similarity of the two states' positions on key international and regional problems. Mutual keenness was expressed to further develop and upgrade Russian-Libyan engagement for the benefit of the peoples of both countries and in the interests of safeguarding security and stability in the Middle East, Africa and the world as a whole.
