Russian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Alexander Saltanov Meets with Egyptian Ambassador to Moscow Raouf Saad

On June 1, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Alexander Saltanov received Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Moscow Raouf Saad, at his request.

The interlocutors exchanged views on the situation in the Middle East and African affairs. In this context, they also touched upon G8 activities on these issues. In addition, they examined the circumstances surrounding Syria and Lebanon and also the course of the political process in Iraq in accordance with UNSCR 1546 and the preparations for an international conference on Iraq in Brussels, the work of which must be concentrated on assistance to the earliest possible stabilization in that country.

In discussing themes of Russian-Egyptian relations, the sides considered a number of specific questions relating to development of mutually beneficial collaboration in various fields such as oil and gas, high technologies, and investment cooperation in accordance with the Joint Statement on Further Deepening of Relations of Friendship and Partnership, adopted by the Presidents of Russia and Egypt during Vladimir Putin's visit to the ARE on April 26-27, 2005.

In the course of the conversation it was emphasized that the inter-MFA Working Committee, established as a result of the accords between the Presidents of the two countries, the first meeting of which was held recently in Cairo, should on a regular basis compare notes on the entire range of the Russian-Egyptian dialogue and questions of bilateral cooperation.
