Intergovernmental Russian-Ethiopian Economic and Scientific-Technical Cooperation and Trade Commission Meeting Held
The Second Meeting of the International Russian-Ethiopian Commission on Economic and Scientific-Technical Cooperation and Trade (IGC) was held in Addis Ababa on November 27-29. At the talks between the IGC cochairmen - Minister of Education of the Russian Federation Vladimir Filippov and Ethiopian Minister of Trade and Industry Girma Biru - an extensive range of issues relating to trade and economic ties was discussed and ways for the sides' further collaboration were mapped out.
Filippov had a conversation with Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi, and held meetings with the heads of various ministries and departments of the country. The disposition was reaffirmed toward vigorous joint work on concrete promising projects of cooperation in the industrial, agricultural, geological prospecting, electricity generation and other fields.
In the course of the work of the IGC a Medium-Term Program for the Development of Russian-Ethiopian Trade, Economic, Industrial and Scientific-Technical Cooperation was signed, along with an Agreement on Cooperation Between the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation and the Ethiopian Chamber of Commerce.
The signed documents strengthen the juridical base of relations between Russia and Ethiopia and widen the possibilities for increasing the multifarious reciprocally beneficial cooperation of the two countries.
The next meeting of the Commission is scheduled for 2004 in Moscow.
