On a Meeting of the Russian MFA Commission to Find Out the Fate of the Russian Pilots Who Went Missing in Angola in 1998-2000

The second meeting of the Russian MFA Commission to find out the fate of the Russian pilots who went missing in Angola in the years 1998-2000 took place on October 10. Officials from a number of Russian departments concerned with this matter, as well as leaders and members of the For Return Home public fund, created by relatives of the missing pilots, took part.

Participants were informed of the steps taken by the Commission since its meeting in July 2002 to solve this acute humanitarian problem, and of the July 2002 operation for the exhumation and delivery from Angola to Russia of the remains of pilot V. P. Kashlin.

Those gathered were also acquainted with the results of the work of the similar Angolan commission on the search for the Russian pilots.

In the course of the meeting, participants discussed some concrete directions of further actions to fulfill the tasks set for the Commission; in particular, to widen the geography of the searches for our compatriots in Angola, taking into account the new situation evolving there after the cessation of hostilities.
