On the Attempt to Stage a Coup in the Republic of Niger
According to incoming reports from the Republic of Niger, disturbances in the army, which began on July 30, 2002, in the Diffa administrative district, have spilled over to other areas of the country and led to an attempt to stage a coup. In
Niger there continues a tense situation, fraught with further serious internal upheavals.
Moscow condemns any forcible methods of seizure of power and hopes that the leadership of Niger and all healthy political forces of the country will seek a solution to the problems that have arisen in the mainstream of undertaken democratic
reforms, on lines of a dialogue aimed at ensuring constitutional order.
