PRESS RELEASE
Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Igor Ivanov Meets with Next of Kin of Russian Pilots Who Went Missing or Were Killed in Angola in 1998-2000

A meeting took place on April 30 between Igor Ivanov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, and the next of kin of the Russian pilots who went missing or were killed in Angola in 1998-2000.

The minister informed them in detail about the measures which Russia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other competent agencies in cooperation with the Angolan authorities, the UN, non-governmental organizations, and the representatives of the leaderships of European and African countries have taken and continue to take in the search of our co-citizens.

Ivanov explained that work is under way on ascertaining the fate of the Russian aviators, and what difficulties it involves, firmly declaring that this activity will be continued until the sought-after results are obtained. It was noted that today, with the cease-fire agreement reached in Angola, the range of search measures has considerably expanded, and there has also appeared the possibility of involving the representatives of the UNITA opposition group in them.

The minister answered the many questions put to him during the talk.
