     In Relation to the Series of Explosions in Nigeria

     On the evening of January 27, a number of powerful explosions occurred on the northeastern outskirts of the Nigerian city of Lagos, caused by a fire that had reportedly spread to the 9th Mechanized Division's ammunition depots from a nearby marketplace. There is loss of human life, several administrative and residential buildings have been damaged.

     At present Nigerian authorities control the situation in the city.

     According to our embassy's information, there are no Russian citizens among the victims.

     The news about the tragic events in Nigeria was received in Moscow with a feeling of deep regret. We express hope that their consequences will be overcome as soon as possible.
